EASTER THOUGHTS
AND SO THE SOLDIERS TOOK JESUS
AND THEY GATHERED AROUND
AND WITH A MOCKING SPIRIT
THEY STARTED TO HOUND
THEY STRIPPED HIS BODY
THIS ANOINTED ONE
THEY MOCKED, THEY JEERED
THEY HAD THEIR FUN
THEN THEY ROBED HIM
IN SCARLET ATTIRE
PUT A STAFF IN HIS HAND
AS IF TO INSPIRE
THEN THEY FLOGGED HIM
AND SPIT IN HIS FACE
THEY MOCKED ALL THE MORE
THIS MAN OF GRACE
THEY PLUCKED HIS BEARD
UNTIL HE BLED
THEN WITH A WREATH OF THORNS
THEY CROWNED HIS HEAD
THEN THEY STRUCK HIM
UNTIL HE ALMOST DIED
THEN THEY LED HIM AWAY
TO BE CRUCIFIED
HE WAS DESPISED AND REJECTED
AND HE SUFFERED ALL LOSS
THIS MAN OF SOROWS
WHO WAS LED TO THE CROSS…
THE SIXTH HOUR
And then on the sixth hour, a miracle from God’s hand
For a total darkness now covered the land
An earthquake occurred as Jesus cried
And the veil was torn as Jesus died
The tombs broke open amidst the strife
And some of the holy ones came back to life
And as that earthquake shook the sod
A centurion said surely, this was the son of God
ISAIAH 53
He took our infirmities and our unbelief
This Man of sorrows carried our grief
We considered Him stricken, smitten of God
Afflicted and pierced on roman sod
Despised and rejected, His fate truly sealed
But by His stripes we now are healed
Like a lamb to the slaughter He was led away
To bring back His sheep that had gone astray
THE RESURRECTION
The angel of the Lord came like lightening, alone
His appearance like snow as He rolled back the stone
The roman guards trembled the two women stood in awe
When an empty tomb was all that they saw
So where oh where was this King of the Jews
The women were thinking as they spread the good news
And from town to town they told the story
How this One conquered death and rose up to glory
EASTER
Easter Sunday
Church bells ringing
People gathering
Choirs singing
Beautiful sunshine
Hints of spring
Easter lilies
Birds that sing
Easter baskets
Colored eggs appeal
Religious traditions
And a big ham meal
Winters ending
Across the earth
A time of wonder
A time of mirth…
APRIL
Cloudy skies and refreshing showers
Soon the blooming of mayflowers
Winds that gust then suddenly die
Across an early, colder sky
Subtle jokes on April fools
Water riplets in woodland pools
Winter retreating to the north
With signs of spring coming forth
Snowflakes that quickly turn to rain
And beat upon the window pane
Weathers mild, turning to harsh
Pussy willows, cattails, down by the marsh
Occasional sunshine, though never long
Birds returning, bringing song
Easter Sunday, a special time
And in the winds the sound of chime…
NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS FOR CHRISTIANS
It’s that time of year for resolutions
So let’s plan to do things right
Let’s all eat less and eat better
And never eat late at night
Let’s purpose in our hearts to exercise
To walk, to jog, and to strive
For your body is the temple of His spirit
Let’s revive to be fully alive
Let’s purpose in our hearts to pray
To be silent before God, alone
And to let His Spirit pray through us
As we joyfully approach His throne
Let’s purpose in our hearts to read the Bible
And to study to show ourselves approved
To be living epistles known and read to men
And like David, to not be moved
Let’s purpose in our hearts to go to church
And to seek His kingdom first
Forsaking not the assembling together
For in His Body, we shall not thirst
Let’s purpose in our hearts to witness to others
As we walk across life’s sod
To be not ashamed of the gospel of good news
And to just leave the rest to God
Let’s purpose in our hearts to do the right things
And to repent of all known sin
Then to trust in the Lord and walk in the Spirit
And to cherish His presence within
Let’s purpose in our hearts to claim the promises
For we are seated with our Christ above
And He who calls you shall also do it
For we’re more than conquerors, in His love…
Delight thyself in the Lord and He shall give thee the desires of thine
heart
Psalm37:4 (KJV)
WINTER
The skies are a murky shade of grey
A silence prevails throughout the day
The winds are brash, boisterous, bold
The nights come early, with the cold
The forests are empty the trees are bare
The animals sleep within their lair
The brooks and streams no longer flow
The fields are covered by the snow
The sun seems distant in the sky
The remnant birds can only sigh
The holidays came like a song
And now we endure, the winter, long
But the sun will return one future day
To chase those murky skies of grey
The flowers will bloom
The birds will sing
As we yearn for the blessed spring
WINTER IN NARNIA
The snows are falling softly
In the forests of Narnia’s land
It’s always winter, never Christmas
Because of the witch’s hand
For she has cast her spell
Being lifted up in pride
Turning the people into statues
Causing all the Narnians to hide
But rumor has it that Aslan
The true king from the north
Will return in power and glory
With warmth, as He comes forth
To bring the blessed springtime
The flowers and all things good
To revive the frozen people
But for now, there’s just
a lamppost in the wood
I FEEL "HIS" PLEASURE
I feel "His" pleasure, as I start my day
As in humble silence, I begin to pray
And the morning sunshine is pleasant to see
For God is smiling down on me
I feel "His" pleasure as I read His word
For the Spirit focuses what should be blurred
And I really don’t have to do the math
For it’s a light to my Feet, a lamp to my path
Then I feel"His" pleasure in the afternoon
As he lifts me above this worldly swoon
And as I walk against the tide
He’ll strengthen me, He’s by my side
I feel "His" pleasure in the night
For he is my peace, he is my light
And He will never slumber, He will not sleep
As the deep is calling unto the deep
TO THE THESSALONIANS
We give thanks unto you
To each one and all
Mentioning you in prayer
For answering the call
We remember your work of faith
And your labor of love
And your patience and hope
In our God above
Knowing brethren your election
This final darker hour
For the Holy Spirit came to you
In assurance and in power
How you turned to God from idols
Here in the aftermath
And wait for His Son from heaven
Who’ll deliver you from the coming wrath…
ECHOES FROM EDEN
I hear the echoes from Eden
Every now and then
Where a created man and woman
Plunged the world into sin
And thousands of years later
The world can only sigh
For the echo has been silenced
By man, who’d multiply
I hear the echoes from Eden
Though faintly throughout the day
For millions and millions in Adam
Have all but gone astray
Adam, oh Adam, where are you
You’ve made a horrible choice
But to all who really listen
They’ll hear the echo, God’s voice…
Original Glory
I’ve heard of original sin, there in the original story
But seldom do I hear of original glory
We are now lost in Adam, fallen, depraved somehow
So could it be we were created, to be more than we are now
Image bearers of God, that’s what we should be
But the glory has faded, the truth we cannot see
Our countenance should be radiant, our Christ our all in all
Like Moses on the mountain, or Adam before the fall…
BE YE FILLED
Be ye filled with the Holy Spirit
What does that really mean
Probably to be confessed up to date
Purged, restored, cleaned
Maybe it means to read my Bible
To witness, to strive, to pray
And of course, to go to church
And to seek Him every day
Be ye filled with the Holy Spirit
Maybe I’ve only begun
To understand the deeper truth
Not my will, but Thine be done
Maybe it’s not even works
Maybe I need to see
That it’s not me having more of Him
But rather Him having more of me…
FRIEND
I’ll never leave or forsake you
I’ll be with you until the end
In fact, I no longer call you servant
Instead, I now call you friend
The hairs of your head are numbered
I’ll love you like no other
For there is a friend
That sticketh closer than a brother
And I’ll encompass you about
I’ll hear your every prayer
Whether shall you flee from my presence
For I am everywhere
A friend loveth at all times
So I need to make you see
That I am your invisible ally
And you’ve got a friend in me …
MATTHEW 11:19
PROVERBS 17:17 & 18:24
YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN
Ye must be born again, begotten from above
A child of the King, the object of His love
Buried with Him in baptism, never more to strive
Raised a new creation, to God, now fully alive
YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN, not of corruptible seed
But by the Word of God, this is man’s great need
To pass from death to life, according to the plan
Crucified, quickened, raised, filled, the one new man…
PSALM 63
God thou art my God
And this is my continual plea
In a dry and thirsty land
Early, will I seek thee
For I’ve seen thee in the sanctuary
In thy glory and thy power
Thy loving kindness is better than life
So I’ll praise thee every hour
And I will bless thee, while I live
For to thee, I am wed
I’ll meditate in the night watches
And remember thee, upon my bed
I shall praise thee, with joyful lips
And sing to thee with my voice
My soul follows hard after thee
In the shadow of thy wings,
I rejoice!
